My Project
Maria Montessori once said that PLAY is children's WORK. This is so true in our educational era of data driven instruction. Play is not just play for play sake. It can be used to help reinforce skills, strengthen logical thinking, and provide situations for sportsmanship and partnership to be practiced.
I am wanting to provide board games to help maintain academic skills and provide opportunities for logical and critical thinking skills to be developed.
A simple game such as checkers can be used for mathematical vocabulary, critical thinking and sportsmanship. There is so much learning that takes place when students think they are just getting to play. The results are much greater than just practicing on a worksheet.
Besides the learning that is taking place, games also provide a positive energy about school. If we can hook students on the fact that school is fun, it will help with maintaining grit when subjects get tough.
