Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an enthusiastic, imaginative group of fifth graders. They are living in an inner-city community. Many are living in shelters. Some are English Language Learners and others have an Individualized Educational Plan. There are many students who have repeated a grade. Most face challenges both inside and outside of school on a daily basis. Despite these challenges, they love learning. They work hard every day in school and at home. They work with classmates to problem solve. They have goals and are working hard to achieve them.
My Project
Kids learn from play. It is important that they play to build necessary social, academic and emotional skills.
They need to move away from screen time and begin playing with each other face to face.
Lunch, recess and Friday afternoon game time with these classic games will provide the opportunity for them to enjoy each other's company while playing thought provoking games.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity at home to play board games. Giving them the time and space to play these engaging games will help them in so many ways. Most importantly they will have fun with each other.
