This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Media Center in rural NC that serves a very diverse and energetic group of middle schoolers! We have a great group of students who love to read and to participate in Battle of the Books every year.

Our students who participate in Battle of the Books (BOB) are dedicated to reading!

They commit to reading the books from the official NC BOB reading which is comprised of 27 titles that are specially selected to encompass a variety of subjects, genres, reading levels, perspectives and interest areas. The students compete in a Quiz Bowl-type competition against other schools to test their recall of the books. The students that participate in this competition consistently amaze me with their teamwork, hard work and focus!

My Project

With the purchase of these materials, we will have at least 3 copies of each of the books. That is necessary, as all of the students need to read all of the books and many of them are very long. Additionally, most of them do not have their own copies of the titles and do need them supplied by the library. Also, the BOB list is usually a recommended reading list to all of our school's students by teachers, so having multiple copies helps the entire student body.

Donations to this project will provide the materials that my dedicated students need to help them participate in this extracurricular activity that challenges and motivates them to read quality literature!
