Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach seventh-grade math and science in the South Bronx at a very poor school where the majority of students receive help with basics like supplies and food. Their math skills in general are seriously lagging. More importantly, the majority of students now fear math as a subject. They fear it because they struggle at it, and this creates a vicious cycle.
We teach ninety-minute periods. In this time, it is important to have fun while also teaching. One great way to accomplish this is to play math bingo games that get even the low-level learner excited. By providing these simple bingo games, you would be helping students who normally tune math out tune in! They will see that math can be fun, not something to be afraid of. I appreciate any help you can provide.
