This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"A room without a book is like a body without a soul." Cicero said, and my students need that soul brought into their lives. Books open up new worlds, and my students are often weak readers, who need high-interest young adult literature to help them move from reluctant readers to avid readers.
Our school has a large immigrant population and many families do not have the disposal income to spend on books.
In addition, many students will be the first in their family to go to college or even graduate high school. The habit of reading widely and deeply is one they need to develop in order to succeed in the world. Help me develop readers who will become leaders in their home, communities, and the world.
My Project
Books like Laurie Halse Anderson' WINTERGIRLS and Graham McNamee's Edgar Award Winning BONECHILLER will bring excitement to sustained silent reading and because they are books that are being used for our county wide Readers Rally Quiz Bowl, students will be encouraged to read in order to compete. These books will also build our class library for future students and the gift of reading will be passed on.
As C.S.
Lewis once said, "We read to know that we are not alone." Let my students see that they are not alone. Let my students know that I am not the only one who sees the value of reading, nor am I the only one that sees their value as readers. Please donate so that I can fill my students with the wonder of worlds within the written page.
