My Project
My 1st grade students come into the classroom with excitement to learn. That excitement is demonstrated with a lot of moving energy and wiggly enthusiasm throughout the day.
Sitting still is boring and can evoke frusteration and induce anxiety.
I want to help my students stay engaged by allowing them to move, wiggle, and be free, away from the constraints of traditional seating with fixed legs under a table or desk.
While reading a good book they can wiggle on a ball chair. While being authors they can sit comfortably on an ergonimic kneeling chair to help them stay focused. While working to solve that tough word problem they can fidget on seat rockers. And then when they need a minute to take a break from it all they can relax for a few minutes on a stuffed chair. All of these alternative seating choices will make their environment as condusive to learning as possible. Alternative seating will help channel their wiggles towards good learning opportunities rather than creating pent up energy with traditional seats.
