This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a school librarian in N.Y. I have been a school librarian for twenty years. I have loved all twenty years! l can't imagine doing anything else!
The students I work with are one of a kind.
They come from very diverse backgrounds and learning abilities. They love to learn and love to try new things. I have children who love to read and children who want to learn to read. I service many children with learning disabilities, spectrum disorders, and with various other disabilities. I have seen over the years how students adapt and at the same time, are drawn to new medias. I want the library to foster a love of all things library. Exposing the students to a variety of materials and possibilities is what I'm all about. I want every student that enters the library to feel loved and excited.
My Project
In the past couple of years, I have been working to create a space that is warm, welcoming and flexible. I have brought in flexible seating, makerspace materials and a Lego wall. Sadly, due to Covid 19 my students will not be able to use the space as it was intended to be used.
I am hoping Donors Choose can help me achieve this goal.
I would like each of my students in Gr. 3 and 4 to receive individual packages of legos to do small exploration and creation activities during designated library time. Whether I am on a cart or in my space, students will not be able to share materials in the way that they are used to. I would love to still incorporate Makerspace and promote makers with individualized material bags.
