My Students
I teach first grade in a South Florida, low-income community. Our school mascot is the fawn and we say that we are all fawn-tastic!
Our school is a magnet and Title I-funded school.
As a school, 97% of our students receive free or reduced-rate lunches. We have a diverse population.
At my school, we have not been given enough funding to keep up with the newest technology and other necessary supplies needed. My students come to school without the basic supplies needed for their success.
My school as a whole highly values education and as a staff team, we are always learning and growing. My students are the greatest and most valuable asset to me and we thank you for your generosity from the bottom of our hearts!
My Project
My students absolutely love and benefit from hands-on materials. WhisperPhones are perfect because they can use them anytime of the day to sit and read to themselves! Students will only hear themselves and not be distracted by other classmates reading to themselves. They can be used when they are finished with an assignment and still be fully engaged with the reading material. This will help to build their reading fluency.
Listening to themselves read helps to build their confidence to read aloud to others and also helps with fluency.
These materials will definitely help my students build the foundation they need to continue to be successful readers! Another fun way to continue to learn!
