Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 170 ELLs in my IPC class from low socio-economic backgrounds. In a subject like IPC, they need to have a good understanding of concepts in order to pass the class. so I try to make it more visual, making posters and small projects with heterogeneous grouping so they get good support from their bilingual peers.

Unfortunately, these students cannot bring any supplies, and I have to supply colored paper, colored pencils, scissors, markers, composition notebooks, and even glue sticks.

I need a lot of anchor charts to keep in class with vocabulary words and Spanish translation.

Our school is nestled in the heart of western Maine, which was once surrounded by bustling mills. Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity.

Each child in my classroom learns with a different method and environment. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners who are enthusiastic and ready to learn.

My Project

These materials will definitely be used for learning from home and in the classroom because most of my students have no money to buy basic supplies like pencils, Crayola markers, and colored paper for their projects.

By donating to my project, you will provide a basic school supply like a pencil to my ELLs so that they can complete their assignment in class or at home and show improvement in their academic progress.

Writing and reading is a basic requirement for ELLs and without an instrument to write, their basic needs are not being met.
