My Project

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”-Maya Angelou. My goal in my classroom is to give my students a refuge to escape the trials of life through music. Through providing ukuleles for my students you would be helping facilitate a new avenue of music for them to find solace in.

My goal is having 30 ukuleles to provide my students with the opportunity to learn something new that they can grow to love.

My students deal with a lot in their daily lives. Most of them come from large families where they are expected to share in the load of family responsibilities such as taking care of siblings, chores, feeding siblings, etc. School for many of my students is a place where they can experience new things and a break from taking care of others. I want to provide my students with as many new experiences and opportunities as possible in my music class.

My hope is that I can instill in my students a passion for music and playing ukuleles independently. I will place students into groups while we learn a variety of songs. Treating it somewhat like recorders and having the students work through a variety of songs both folk songs and pop songs. Ukuleles are a great instrument to work on hand eye coordination and learning chord structure. Thank you for considering my project and investing in my students!
