My Students
My students are really special to me for many reasons. I have a wonderful group of students who come from diverse backgrounds that make them unique. Being engaged in their own learning is crucial for ensuring their success. Many of my students are unable to bring in their own school supplies. I know that they learn best through active and meaningful experiences that they can connect across the content areas and to their own experiences.
I know my students' learning style and that learning by doing is essential for them because it is so highly motivating.
Unfortunately, most of the enriching experiences my students encounter are within the school walls because my students live in high poverty situations. An organized learning environment is essential in order for my students to be able to create freely! My students deserve to learn in the best way possible and that is providing the most welcoming atmosphere is extremely important. I believe that providing them with the materials they need aides in their success.
My Project
This school year looks so different around our country and our world. Learning looks different everywhere. However, a few things have remained the same; the resiliency of our students and the passion teachers have to teach them. Our math small groups have still met this school year and I have seen major academic growth within my students. I want to continue to run successful small groups for the duration of the school year and into next year.
As teachers, our time working in small groups is extremely valuable and we have to maximize each moment!
Meeting with small groups can appeal to the learning styles of multiple students and make a huge difference in their academic and social growth. Amidst the pandemic, our small groups have been meeting through the use of Google Meet and Zoom. We have gone through many pairs of ear buds this school year, an upgrade to headphones would be academically enriching for our class!
