Let It Snow! Winter Concert Props & Supplies

Help me give my students these snow themed props and supplies they need to make our "Let it Snow!" Winter Concert a huge success! In addition, these items will create learning opportunities well beyond this single concert.

My Project

The two Title 1 schools where I teach K-5 elementary music look forward to their special school-wide Winter Concert event each year. In addition to building their skills in the National Music standards of Creating, Performing, Responding & Connection, this event also builds community with stake-holders in many ways. At this year's concert event each grade level is performing a song about snow in some form. In these weeks leading up to the concert, students are involved in lessons about the weather cycles creating a "Winter Wonderland of Snow". These items being requested will be used as props so that every one of the nearly 1,000 students will have something special to use to add music and/or movement to their songs. This will significantly increase their engagement, self-efficacy, and motor skill development, which is very much needed for these students in this era of so much screen time. It is such a thrill to watch their faces light up when you hand them a "Little Snowflake" they can help gently fall from the sky as their melody descends, a pom-pom they can use to dance around like "Suzy Snowflake", a red scarf to "thumpity thump" like Frosty the snowman, a white scarf to make "piles and piles of snow" with, or wooden castanets to add a literal snap to a fun song about a "Cold Snap". Thank you for helping create this magical world for them.
