This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have seen our weed filled garden bed all year. It is time for us to make use of this space to learn. They have been excited about using the garden beds in front of our classroom and have worked hard pulling the weeds and cleaning the bed. The students came up with questions about gardening and we researched the answers online because our class had few gardening books. They selected the seeds they wanted to plant, and eat: carrots, corn, beans, radishes, tomatoes, sunflowers, and nasturtiums and mapped out their garden. I have the seeds ready to go.
Now it is time for the students to learn how to maintain their garden and learn about the plants they are growing.
The students can achieve this by reading more about gardening, documenting their plant growth and journaling about their gardening experiences.
When it is time to harvest their vegetables they will share their harvest, and their gardening experiences, with their families.
