This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Let it go, let it go!! Bounce around and face the board!! I won't care when I learn all day....

My students are amazing kids in a Title I campus, which means a large majority of our population is on free/reduced lunch (our numbers are over 70%).

My kids love to learn and read, but some just cannot seem to be able to focus long enough to retain information. I had acquired 4 stability discs for my students, but the motion was not enough sensory stimulation that their brain needed to pay attention.

My Project

I have one 65cm ball in my classroom that I bought to test theories that stability balls help students focus. I have one particularly active student who always requests it and he is able to work the entire day while bouncing on the ball. Without it, he cannot stay in his area, he finds reasons to wander around the classroom, makes sounds, fidgets to the point of bothering classmates and disrupts learning. These balls will allow my active children and those who need to be more alert to maintain focus throughout the day. A sensory website indicated that, "From a sensory perspective, an exercise ball chair IS THE BEST SEATING SOLUTION for children with issues regarding balance, postural control, attention, and sensory seeking behaviors of the vestibular and proprioceptive sense."

I believe my children are capable of anything with the right tools to assist them.

I want them to let their wiggles go... "Let the hops rage on....the balls won't bother me anyway!"
