it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Mr. Rogers once said, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." While working with young children as an assistant Teacher and now as a first year preschool teacher in a primary center that serves primarily minority populations in the City of Bell, I have witnessed the importance of learning through play. My preschool classroom is split into an AM and PM class. My AM class includes 8 typical students and 7 PAL’S students for a total of 15 students and 15 students in the afternoon for a total of 30 students per day. During a typical school day both classes will have 24 students for a total of 48 students per day. I strive to promote an inclusive environment that provides opportunities for my students and PALS students to play, learn and build friendships.
My Project
Young children learn and understand new concepts through the art of play. For many of my young students (3 yr. -4 yrs.) this is their first school experience. The materials I am requesting for my project will target social- emotional, cognitive, language domains and will act as an extension for Creative Curriculum units that we will cover throughout the year. The units include signs, clothes, community workers, Simple Machines Study, healthy eating habits and families.
The Dramatic play materials will expose students and familiarize them with different occupations and tools used.
During Preschool, children usually attend their first dental appointment, learn about healthy eating habits, and become interested in different community occupations that they are unfamiliar with and leads to stress. In addition, the PALS students who mainstream in my classroom will benefit from this materials as-well.
