Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students represent over 34 countries and speak over 20 languages. This is an amazing group of students who represent the best of their local neighborhoods. This being a magnet school, they have to have excellent grades then win a lottery to attend. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with such dedicated and driven students.
Their dedication is reflected by the many sacrifices they make to attend this school.
Many students have to take multiples buses to attend school. They start their day well before sunrise to make the 7:15 A.M. bell. We have no sport programs and very limited extracurricular activities. The students' after school life is limited to study groups and career-centered interest clubs such as the information technology, engineering, and the medical professionals clubs.
Working with these students has the been the highlight of my career. Their energy, attitude toward learning, and drive make them a pleasure to teach. These students keep me on my toes and forces me to bring my "A" game every day. I am grateful to teach them.
My Project
We are creating a programming strand within the school's academy of information Technology. We hope this strand will give our students the very best preparation and opportunity we can offer them.
We want our students to have the every advantage that all students should have; qualified teachers, current texts and the equipment to apply learned content.
The Elegoo Arduino Robot can be programmed in Python and Java. We teach our students both of those languages. Students benefit greatly from seeing the physical application of a programming language. These robots will give them an opportunity to see firsthand the relationship between programming and mechanically controlling a robot.
