I teach second grade in a title one public school in Sunset Park Brooklyn. In New York the standards the children have to meet has increased which means that the children's days are mostly filled with learning the basics they need to be successful.
It is very important for the children to learn the basics, but it is also important that they be allowed some time to be creative. Due to the focus on academics the school has not purchased arts and crafts materials so it's very hard to give the children some creative time when you don't have the materials to do so. I am asking for a bunch of materials from oriental trading so the children can also be allowed to explore their creative sides.
