Help me give my students lending library bags, pocket charts, and library cards to start our classroom lending library so students can have books to read at home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders are English language learners who have a thirst for learning. Our school is in a low income urban neighborhood in Chicago. Ninety-eight percent of our school's students are native Spanish speakers and come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. In some cases, school is the only place where these students get the opportunity to hear and use the English language.
My students are highly motivated and eager to learn!
The Chicago Public Schools have been facing budget cuts year after year, and I am lacking the materials needed to help these kids.
My Project
Most of my students do not have books to practice reading at home. I want to set up a lending library system in my classroom so my students can borrow books from our classroom. It is so important that they read every night.
With your donation, my students will be able to continue their love of books and reading at home!
I am asking for pocket charts, and library cards to set up a classroom check out system. Also sturdy book bags to protect the books for safe transport to and from school. This project will help foster growth in their reading skills.
