My Project

In second grade we focus on early literacy skills and getting all students fluently reading by the end of the year. My second grade class uses a computer literacy program called Lexia Reading. Lexia Reading is an adaptive blended learning program that accelerates the development of literacy skills for students of all abilities. Each student follows their own lesson path developed by the program. The few headphones that were provided to us by the school have fallen apart. We have about 5 working headphones and 15 computers. The headphones on our list would allow students to focus on their work and not be disrupted by other sounds.

Due to funding cuts this year, teachers were not provided with reimbursement for supplies.

At this moment headphones are an immediate need. I have also included some read aloud books for my class. Our favorite thing during morning meeting is reading books with a important message. Social emotional learning is very important to me and fun silly books are a great way to start the conversation. The good egg and bad seed by Jory John are some of our favorites. They have helped us learn that we all have many choices through out our day and it is up to us if we want to make good decisions or bad decisions.

Some of the topics we have covered this year are: growth mindset, why it is important to make good choices even when no one is looking and taking care of ourselves as well as others in our classroom community. If you choose to donate to our classroom it will immediately benefit my 2nd grade class. Not only will it support students with their early literacy development but it will also help to develop their social emotional learning.
