Leis of Aloha

Help me give my students supplies to make lei for graduating seniors and community members.

My Project

Each year our elementary school welcomes back graduating seniors that once attended our school. They have a ʻparadeʻ where all of their former teachers, siblings and community members can congratulate them and wish them well. We started this tradition a few years ago and this year we will have 70 seniors participating!

My class would like to make paper flower leis to give to the graduating seniors.

The traditional of making and giving lei to people during graduation is a way to honor and adorn our seniors. It is a way to show love, respect and honor.

We will photocopy a flower outline on colored card stock, cut them out, then string them on ribbon. In between each flower will be a piece of straw as a spacer.

We would also like to extend this community service project to spread kindness and give lei to visiting guest speakers, staff members during teacher appreciation week, and to the organizations we visit throughout the year.
