Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
These materials are to help my multilingual students spend more time listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. They need materials that allow them to express their creativity as well as to inspire their reading and writing.
As a dual-language school, our young students have opportunities to explore materials using both their languages.
They read and write in their home language for the first pivotal years. As soon as that foundation is built, they are ready to transfer those skills to another language.
Our school needs basics for exploration and practice.
