Legos: Learning and Logic

My Students

"Education is the most important weapon we can use to change the world," - Nelson Mandela.

My students are a sweet group of firsties who come from many different countries including Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, China, Japan, the Congo, Spain and the Dominican Republic.

They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first generation English speakers.

My Project

Legos! Legos everywhere! Having Legos in the classroom will help my students develop lateral thinking, improve literacy, develop problem solving strategies, improve their creativity and fine motor development by working alone or with a partner.

Without realizing it, Legos touch various aspects of students lives by encouraging them to communicate their thinking and sharing ideas, working with directions and allowing students to think in three dimensions.

Legos are especially important because students will be able to PLAY by using their minds and thinking through building situations. Allowing time for my students to build will also increase their academic performance across the curriculum.
