Help me give my students exposure to Lego Education in our Makerspace! Students will be able to use their creativity, imagination and hands-on learning to design and build many different things!
Have you ever heard of a NEST classroom before? The goal of the ASD Nest Support Project is to advance the development and implementation of educational solutions for children living with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The ASD Nest Model is designed for students with Autism, who are able to do grade-level academic work. We create a fully inclusive therapeutic environment that uses positive behavior support, targeted instructional strategies and specialized social interventions to make inclusion work.
The Nest program provides a safe, inclusive environment where students are valued as individuals and learn alongside their general education peers, while developing foundational skills for continued success in school.
Our second graders are working hard, not only on academics, but also navigating the social world. We choose to celebrate their strengths and use those strengths along with their interests to motivate them to work to their fullest potential. Our class prides itself on being a community of learners who aren't afraid to take risks, who support one another, and who are working on being life-long learners!
My Project
Makerspace provides hands on, creative ways for students to design, experiment, and invent, as they engage in Science, Engineering, and Tinkering, all while focused on student inquiry. Many of my students have expressed their interest in Legos and are hoping to add them to our Makerspace.
Having Legos in our Makerspace will allow the students to use their creativity and engineering minds to build and create anything they can imagine!
Students will also be working on the navigating the social aspect, while working on building, sharing, and communicating with their peers.
The Legos will also be incorporated into our Social Studies curriculum when learning about the three types of communities. The students will be able to design and build Urban, Rural, and Suburban communities.
