My Students
When the children come to our school, they all begin their day with free breakfast. They come from a community where eighty-three percent of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, however, all children receive free meals while at school.
Over half of our students do not have broadband Internet at home so teachers hand out packets of information that can be done off line as well as online.
Living in a rural parish, my students often see cattle, goats, raccoons, opossums, bull frogs, fish, and alligators. To me, our parish is the most unique in the state! I am proud to be from Louisiana and humbled to teach impoverished children. Let's give those children a fighting chance to be the best they can be!
My Project
Social emotional feelings have been severely impacted by the pandemic crisis. This coupled with the extreme teaching shortage, our student counselors and social skills teachers are desperately seeking manipulatives that will help combat the rising tide of misbehavior incidents.
This new Lego set has blocks depicting a wide range of facial expressions that will help students express themselves when they can not fully articulate the changing world around them.
Primary aged children are still learning a vast vocabulary system, and I believe the legos will help them share the emotions they are feeling with teachers.
