Help me give my students an opportunity to learn through creative play together, which can be done safely with their own Lego sets.

My Students
It's been said that play is a child’s work. My students are incredibly creative and seek out activities that build connections. Even over Zoom meetings, they would bring their toys to the screen so they could talk and show each other their work. They got so excited to see that other kids have the same interests! Michigan has been shut down for almost 8 months. Now that we are back to school in person, they are making even deeper connections with friends. Our room is one big, non-stop conversation!
My Project
We are just coming back to our building full-time and in a socially distant room. In an effort to provide authentic play experiences for my students, we are building up collections of small toys and manipulatives that students can keep at their desks.
My students are little sparks of energy that cannot wait to come back to school for in-person learning!
They amaze me every day with their creativity and excitement for learning. One of their favorite choices for developmental learning centers is our Lego building station, which we recreated while online! Both boys and girls enjoy creating and problem-solving to create a structure that fits their needs. They learn to negotiate and compromise in order work together. The most exciting times are when they integrate literacy and math studies into the center! They are adventurous in their learning and hungry for new learning opportunities.
