My Students
My school provides a rigorous and safe learning environment for students from kindergarten through 4th grade. We are one of six elementary schools in our district. Over half of my school receives free or reduced-price lunches. We are located in rural Arkansas. The majority of our students have limited access to new technology.
We have a diverse group of students who are creative, smart, and love to solve problems.
I am the school's Science Specialist, and I love providing opportunities for my students to shine!
My Project
My school is creating a new Makerspace for our kindergarten through fourth grade students. A Makerspace is a place for students to come to engineer, create, and problem solve collaboratively. This room will be stocked with supplies and activities to enrich our STEAM program at our school. For example, students will be experimenting with circuits, taking electronics apart, engineering and testing bridge designs, or even building robots out of Legos in our Makerspace classroom.
The LEGO wall is an essential component of our Makerspace classroom because it will inspire creativity and collaboration for over 400 students.
Students will work together to create models of the water cycle, plants, layers of the Earth, and so much more on this wall. They will have to create a design together, assign jobs, and complete the project in groups. It will be a place where teachers can not only present challenging and rigorous projects to teach content, but also a fun and engaging space for children.
