My students need assorted Legos to go with the new Lego table that we just received as a gift to our classroom.

My Students
A family friend gave my classroom a brand new Lego table, but we have no Legos to build with.
My class is a fabulously diverse group of 3rd graders that have been with me since the beginning of 2nd grade.
We are a tight-knit group whose classroom environment feels more like a big family than a school room. My kids work very hard to meet my expectations, and I work very hard to set expectations that are just right for each of them.
We are a Title 1 school with about 50% free lunch over all and my class has just a bit more than 50%. Seven of my kids are certified for the gifted program. Two are served by the ELL program while five speak Spanish as their native language. I have five kids who are certified Learning Disabled in reading, writing, math or all of the above. One of my kids also goes to speech services. With this kind of diversity, you can bet that we do a lot of small group work and many different things are going on at once in my room.
My Project
With the Legos that I have requested, I want to establish a Lego center for my students to go to when they finish their work. It is my plan to have a variety of Lego pieces that they can use to build and create different structures on our new Lego table.
I think that Legos are a fabulous way for kids to get to experiment with math, physics, and engineering concepts early on - long before they formally meet these concepts in higher level science and math classes.
Please consider supporting this proposal.
I remember how much fun I had with Legos as a child. As an adult, I know all about the educational benefits of building with Legos. With these two things in mind, I don't think we can go wrong by adding Legos to the classroom materials that my kids can experience.
