This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build and to read. As the ELD teacher for kinder and 1st grade, I spend my time pushing

into classrooms to teach English language learners.

My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them. Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.

My Project

The beginning counting materials are so important for students to develop a one to one correspondence and number recognition. It's important to have a variety of counting options to keep up interest for students.

The Legos will provide a high interest stem center.

because they add a component of social emotional they can be used in small groups to work on some much needed social skills. In addition they will be a great resource for open ended discovery.

Other items like the farm line up directly with our curriculum. They add a hands on element to the informational unit on farms. Students can recreate stories with the wooden characters and that links directly to our state objectives.
