Lego My Kinders!

My students need a large Lego building set.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Stratford's classroom raised $254

This project is fully funded

I have always thought that every young child needs the experience of playing with Lego building blocks. I teach Kindergarten in a low-income school where many of my children are fortunate just to get their basic needs met.

Any small amount of money that I may receive from the district must go for the necessities of crayons, paper, cardstock, etc. I have recently been researching the benefits of play in early childhood and have discovered an exciting research study that shows a relationship between Lego play in early childhood and achievement in mathematics once the child reaches middle and high school. This is wonderful news! Playing in kindergarten can help children with middle and high school mathematics!

The process of playing can also increase literacy skills by providing opportunities for storytelling, retelling, sequencing of events, character development, and so on. Play helps develop social skills for all students and increases language acquisition for second language learners. Sign me up!! My class needs a big set of basic Lego building blocks to get started. Currently there are 22 students in my class who would love to take turns and share in the fun of playing and learning with Lego.

You will make it possible for my students to play with a childhood classic that they might otherwise miss out on, and they will attain wonderful LEARNING benefits at the same time!
