Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will help transform student's ideas into reality. Students are investigating how structures are created and the effects of earthquakes upon them. The lego we are seeking will allow students to build skyscrapers and bridges and then test them against the shaking, pressure, and weight caused by earthquakes. The students have been investigating building techniques and strategies and creating unique new approaches to construct these buildings to withstand the forces of nature. Students have created blueprints of their designs using their investigations of engineering techniques and designs of modern structures.

The materials we are requesting will allow students to bring their ideas to life in creating replica models.

The students are from low income families and communities and would greatly benefit from creating real-world and practical creations to help them build on their engineering skills for future classes in STEAM. This class is run in conjunction with an after school program to keep students off the streets and involved and invested in their learning outside the traditional classroom.
