My Students

Did you say LEGOS and Science? Yes I did! Everything is awesome if you have LEGOS, science, and technology together!

Our school is a neighborhood school in an urban area.

Many families struggle to make ends meet. Parents want their children to succeed and want to help them. Our school tries to work with the parents to encourage them in the educational process. During the past 13 years I have taught at my school I have noticed that students constantly asked me when are we going to do science. They love science, especially any science which is hands on and relevant to them. My students also have a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I've also noticed that many of my students love Lego's. In class they constantly crave anything Lego. If I can combine their two passions, learning will be relevant and fun for them.

My Project

The LEGO Simple and Motorized Classroom packs/kits will allow my students grades 2-5 to obtain hands on and relevant material to get them excited about science. Students will build and explore machines and mechanisms using technology, investigate motorized machines, calibrate and capture wind, and study gearing mechanisms using the LEGO Simple and Motorized Classroom packs. One day this group of students may be involved in a science or mathematical based job. With the LEGO Simple and Motorized packs students will garner problem solving skills, build teamwork, and communication skill sets. All skills that kids will need to succeed in the future world.

In a traditional learning environment, students are often asked to master concepts using a pencil-and-paper approach.

Often this methodology fails to really capture students attention and engage them in a learning process resulting in a deeper comprehension of the concepts. Elementary students learn more effectively when they are able to use manipulative's and hands-on applications to construct and shape their learning. Using the LEGO Education Simple Machines will allow my students to do so.
