Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The sky is the limit for creative student ideas when you sit them in front of classic LEGO bricks, especially those in the Star Wars theme. My students are enthralled with Star Wars so i selected kits that range from complex, the Razor Crest and At-At, to simpler like the character helmets. My class is planning to use Engineering, Math, and Technology to expand our existing classroom LEGO STEAM makerspace into a learning area for the whole school. My students want their peers to build these LEGO bricks kits and learn fractions, multiplication, and stop-motion LEGO animation, among dozens of other ideas that they are brainstorming. As the basis of all this learning is also Art. Students will visualize their brick structures, stories, and complex problems and bring their architectural visualizations to life with little plastic bricks. If they can conceive it, they can build it.
The creation of a school LEGO makerspace will give all students the opportunity to learn collaboratively and design through trial and error.
This freedom to explore, create, experiment, and reflect will increase self-esteem and engagement in STEAM learning. Hands-on learning with LEGO is of high interest and develops critical thinking skills that kids need to develop for future careers. We can not wait to begin creating, designing, and learning. Your support is greatly appreciated!
