Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are beginning to learn basic robotic programming skills. In order to encourage them to become 21st century problem solvers, we need additional Lego pieces. With these pieces, they will be able to become more creative and have additional options.

We are a public elementary school in Chicago.

Many students lack access to technology. They are curious kids who enjoy learning new technology. Legos can be used with all the students, including my English language learners and my Special Education students. I teach Kindergarten through 8th grade students.

My Project

I am requesting 4 Lego building sets. Students will be able to increase critical thinking skills to solve a problem and get something to work or find a way to make a device more efficient. Since technology is used in almost all careers, using Legos to plan, build, and solve problems helps them with science, math, engineering, and computer programming skills. They start with robotic animals, then machines, and move on to building their own creations.

Donations will help us to move behind the basics so the creations the students have envisioned can actually be built.

The project gets students excited about technology; it is a subject they are interested in and will help prepare them for future careers. Students show and share their Lego creations to younger students and act as mentors. They take pride in their achievements and confidence is increased, encouraging them to have higher ambitions.
