This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Thankful, kind, and resilient are the first three words that come to mind when I think of my fourth graders. The last time all of these children had an uninterrupted school year, they were FIRST GRADERS! The impact that Covid 19 has had on their academic and social development is evident, but they are giving it their best effort! They come to school with a smile in their eyes every day.
Many of these children have already faced challenges and traumas that most people won't face in an entire lifetime.
Some have moved multiple times—just during the course of the pandemic. They have faced loss due to Covid-19 and some have been sick themselves. All of my students qualify for and receive free breakfast and lunch. We have a high population of English language learners, many still in the early stages of acquiring English, and we have a significant number of neurodiverse students. Despite these challenges, they always give it their all!
My Project
Who says learning has to be boring? This LEGO kit will give students the opportunity to problem-solve while having fun and improving their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) skills. Providing students with engaging activities that require them to apply a variety of strategies to achieve success is a challenge for any teacher and this LEGO kit will help me meet that need. Interpersonal skills are also developed as students work in teams and learn to listen, compromise, and come to a consensus as they complete tasks. I can’t wait to watch the fun and learning begin!
