This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with the language. They may not have many opportunities at home after school or on weekends to practice their English skills.
All of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.
Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day-to-day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good working habits in order to succeed in the future!
My Project
Early learners come into classrooms not knowing or understanding how to engage with others. They need opportunities to work together and have fun!
Collaborating and communicating is the essence of a functioning classroom!
Early learners need to build the skills to engage and work with others.
LEGOs have been in children's hands for many years. To build and create while engaging with others is an activity that lends itself for collaboration. Early learners will be able to talk and share ideas with each other while they create places and use LEGO people to mimic the world in which they live!
