Ms. Z. from Tampa FL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
We need funding to be able to explore caves and get a hands on experience. We will be able to get an opportunity to explore underground caverns in the Withlacoochee State Forest.

The students that I teach come from impoverished backgrounds and not many of them have parental figures that have finished high school much less attend college. Students in low income neighborhoods and labeled disadvantaged fail to pursue careers in the scientific field. This project will allow my students to explore. My students enjoy science but have few opportunities to go on field trip and just explore.
My students are very inquisitive and like to tell me about science articles they read or documentaries that they saw. Science is the study of the natural world and the world fascinates them. They also like to tell me about new inventions they would like to build. For example a few students built a "declogger" to unclog the kitchen sink pipes using an old air freshener container and parts from games they don't use.
Scholars will benefit from a first hand experience of exploring underground caverns. They will learn about stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological treasures. Scholars will Learn about Florida’s geological composition while having fun at the same time. Scholars will also Learn how bats and spiders contribute to the ecosystem of the Withlacoochee State Forest. There is certainly nothing more real than crawling into a cave and finding bats and other creatures that inhabit the caves. They will gain a better understanding and awareness of Florida's land forms and ecosystems. Your donation to this project will help my students have an adventure and learn about caves through exploration and not just by reading about it in textbooks.
As a scholar, I would like to visit a cave because I have never explored a cave before. We have been learning about earth science this semester and we don't get many opportunities to go on field trips to explore Florida. I have lived in Florida all my life and did not even know we had caves.
I will learn that students can help plan field trips with their teachers. This field trip will help us be explorers and will help me like science even better. We want to explore and apply what we have learned. We want to go on an adventure like the students in Ms. Frizzle's class on the Magic School bus.
This project is important because it will help us have a hands-on experience. We are tired of looking at pictures of caves and watching videos on caves. We want to actually see a cave up close. We want to actually touch a stalagmite and a stalactite. Science should be hands-on.
