This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 3rd-grade classroom is part of a dual language immersion program where students are learning in both English and Spanish. This unique approach helps our students become bilingual and culturally aware, skills that are increasingly valuable in our global society.

To support our students’ growth and enhance their Spanish language acquisition, we are seeking funding to purchase authentic Spanish reading resources.

With a grant of $750, we plan to invest in a variety of engaging, culturally responsive books and reading materials that are specifically designed for young learners. Also, I want to help my students to interact orally with no barriers, especially newcomer or ELL students.

This project matters for cultural relevance. Authentic Spanish reading materials will provide our students with stories and texts that reflect their own cultural backgrounds and experiences. This helps foster a stronger connection to the language and enhances their engagement in reading. High-quality Spanish books will support students in developing their vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency in Spanish. These resources will complement their daily lessons and offer additional practice outside the classroom.

Children are more motivated to read when they have access to materials that are interesting and relatable. By offering a diverse selection of Spanish books, we can inspire a love of reading and encourage students to explore new topics and genres.
