Leaving our Literary Mark

Help me give my students the opportunity to leave their mark on our classroom walls and carry the shared love of poetry with them long after graduation.

My Project

This project would allow my AP Literature students to adopt a literary brick on our classroom walls in the weeks before graduation. Having explored new books, poems, and stories all year long, our class allows students to reflect on their milestones and moments as readers. By opening the course with the picture books that brought them comfort as children, we establish ourselves as readers and explore how literature allows us to grow and experience the world around us.

Having just completed the AP Literature exam as seniors, this mini mural project offers soon-to-be graduates the opportunity to leave their literary mark on our classroom walls.

Students are encouraged to seek out literary quotes that have stuck with them long after the book was closed. In addition, I am requesting books of poetry that can be gifted to my graduates, as each poet has been studied in the class and identified as fan favorites. These particular poets were selects by students in their independent study of poetry, and are most frequently referenced by a group of students who "didn't like poetry" when our course began.
