FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Moore's classroom raised $268

Parents are the first teachers. Parent involvement has greatly improved academic success in my classroom. I have marveled at the effect of parent involvement in disruptive classroom situations.
I work with first graders on the south side of Chicago. My students love to read they are now bringing books from home to read in front of the class. The children model the reading that I do in class. I find it quite amusing (because I am sometimes very animated) and flattering. The problem is that the children are bringing in the same books and that's ok but I would like to broaden their minds with a wide variety of exciting and adventurous books. I would also like to get the parents involved by having the parents read to the children as much as possible at home; and since many of my children are not shy invite parents to come out and hear their children read maybe during an Open House or Parent Conference night.
This is why I thought it would be nice to have a lending library so that the children can choose from a variety of books and become familiar with a larger range of words. I figured in this way the students are benefiting by becoming better readers, this will also foster family time, and it keeps the parents involved in assisting with their child's learning. At the least it will allow me to keep smiling when the children imitate my reading characteristic.
I have great expectations for my students. I know they'll be wonderful readers with the right materials. One of my goals is to foster a community of readers and with the parents that I've met I'm sure I can do it. I just need your help. Please help me to leave no parent behind so that we can continue on the right track.
