This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you were able to build something and share it when your friends or family? My students want to build and share, and using these LearnToLearn kits will allow them to build in an educational way, and then write about their creation when they are done.

We are the second grade classes from a low income public school in Glendale, AZ.

Funding is very limited in our community, and many students face great challenges. We are 80 students that need tools to help us explore and become inquisitive about the world around us.

My Project

Hands on learning is so important to younger students. Being able to explore and inquire about the world around them. We need three Lego LearnToLearn kits to allow the entire Second Grade at my school to explore building while following 15 sets of activities that come with the kits. This will help improve their ability to follow instructions, recipes and other forms of informational text. The students will also be able to come up with their own Lego creation using the individual LearnToLearn packs that included in the kit. Ultimately the goal is to have students create something, write about it, then create a short video with their writing using the Lego creation as the star of the video. This will help them learn about Math, Science, Technology and Language Arts as well as Public Performance as they film their video by speaking their written product, filming the lego, and sharing their video with other 2nd graders.

The Lego LearnToLearn kits will make not only a difference in my classroom, but the other two second grade classrooms at my school.

All 80 students will benefit from being able to use the kits. Each student will be able to use their own pack that has 72 Lego elements in it. They will not have to share, wait for someone else to finish, or even take turns building. They will be able to complete each of the 15 educational activities Lego includes completely on their own! Which is so important!
