This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What was your favorite field trip as a child? Was it the local museum? The state capitol building? The aquarium? Or maybe the nature preserve? We want to help create these memories for our students. We want them to remember the exciting field trip they took in first grade!

Our students are amazing!

They are curious about the world and LOVE science! All of our students receive free or reduced lunch and eighty percent are English Language Learners. Despite the hardships that are out of their control (poverty, violence, drug/alcohol abuse), they come to school like any 1st grader should--excited!

My Project

We want to use the resources our city has to enhance and continue our students' love of learning. Kidspace is a kid-friendly museum where our students will be able to explore scientific principles through hands-on experiments and to express themselves using different tools. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits that will provide our students with opportunities to use trial and error and their knowledge about our world to analyze and problem solve problem situations. We need funds for transportation and admission for all of our 140 first-grade students this 2013-2014 school year.

Learning cannot be limited to a textbook and a classroom.

Learning happens everywhere! Exploration is learning! Help us make this trip happen for our students, so that they can remember that special field trip they took in first grade.
