My Students

Study shows that laptops in school classes improve scores. The use of laptops in elementary school classrooms fosters academic success according to a study conducted in the Eastern Townships School Board. The use of computers as a teaching tool increases concentration, reinforces motivation, and facilitates both the development and the autonomy of students. In addition, it provides tailored education all the while teaching computer skills. Students in my class deserve to experience different modes of learning utilizing technology.

I teach a wonderful group of third grade students at a Title One school in Florida.

Eighty percent of these students receive free lunch. Many come to school with empty stomachs and, no supplies, but amazingly still have the hunger to learn. My classroom consists of students of varying abilities, ethnicity, languages and interests who work together and make substantial progress throughout the year. A laptop in my classroom would greatly aid in their growth and interest in learning.

My Project

Students are digital natives completely surrounded by a digital world. With the increase in class size and students still needing one-on-one support, technology like laptops can assist in reaching all students. Literacy is an area students struggle with in my classroom. Many of the students are from different cultures who are still learning the English language. Access to a laptop during differentiated Center time will boost interest in reading as well as develop vital reading skills. Research shows that students learn best when they are engaged. Having a laptop in the classroom will offer endless number of educational possibilities for my students.

Donations to this request will have a great impact on students' literacy skills.

My students get excited about dry erase boards and the smallest items presented to them. I can already picture the look on their bright faces and the excitement in their voices once they are presented with a laptop that they can use during differentiated center time.
