This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Middle school can be a challenging and exciting time in the life of a student. I feel very fortunate to be a part of their journey during this chapter of their stories. I teach math and science to 6th-grade students and work as the Associated Student Body advisor for the older students. Additionally, I host an after-school club called the STEAM Team. Every morning, our diverse student body comes to school, early so they can receive a free breakfast to start their day off right. One-hundred percent of our students qualify for a free lunch. Our independent and mature students are often in charge of getting themselves and younger siblings out the door, and to school on time. Although this area is known by some for the gangs and crime, it is filled with hard-working families and smart students.
Our students are lively and enthusiastic learners filled with curiosity that inspires everyone at the school!
My Project
The students will research quotes to add to the mirrors and doors in the bathrooms all around campus. They will use permanent vinyl to improve the look and create a positive experience in the bathrooms at our school.
Students will learn to design with the Cricut Joy software and practice with some simple personalize items using the smart vinyl cut with a Cricut Joy before they work on the positive bathroom messages.
The goal is that the student participation will make the messages more meaningful to the kids. the bathrooms will look better and hopefully this will lead to the bathrooms being better taken care of by the students.
