Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class this year is an enthusiastic and eager mix of students from various cultural backgrounds. They have to work hard to overcome the obstacles that face them on a daily basis. However, they are eager to learn and always strive to do their best. The majority of my students (79%) receive free breakfast and lunch and they have very limited access to technology in the home. Giving them access to, and practice with, more technology in the classroom will help them become the successful 21st century learners that they want to be.

My students learn best when using engaging hands-on materials.

We use a lot of differentiated stations during reading and math to allow all students a chance to practice the skills that they need.

My Project

The Osmo Genius kit learning system will allow my students to build their math computation skills as well as their spatial awareness. Playing the Osmo Numbers game is an engaging way to practice addition and the Tangram game lets students see how shapes can be put together to build new shapes. The Osmo Words game gives students a chance to practice reading and spelling skills by building words using the provided letter tiles. The Masterpiece game will build their eye-hand coordination and handwriting. These are all critical skills in first grade.

The Osmo coding games teach problem-solving and logic skills.

These skills will help my students grow their 21st century skills in order to succeed in the ever-changing world.

Finally, the pocket charts will be utilized during center time to play addition and subtraction matching games or to build words and sentences. My students learn best when they are out of their seats utilizing these hands-on materials.
