Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are third graders. We work on science projects using old microscopes. I have to purchase any science tools, equipment, and supplies on my own. It would be so wonderful if they could have the opportunity to use updated microscopes.

We are a k-6 school.

I teach third grade. My students come from a low socioeconomic background. They have limited life experiences and are at-risk students, but I know they are bright and capable of doing anything. They are eager to learn. They come to school daily with smiles on their faces with daily homework completed, waiting to learn. I am so proud of them and how hard my students work each day. For this reason I am hoping I can get these two microscopes for my class.

My Project

My students love science and so do I. I purchase the science experiment stuff, like cotton balls, batteries, mini light bulbs, soil, and eggs to list a few. It would be so awesome if they could use updated microscopes. I have 10 outdated microscopes, and most of them are now on Thier last legs, or should I say base. I am the only teacher who uses microscopes because I was able to purchase them over 15 years ago when we had school money. I have students coming back to me who are now in high school saying how fun my science class was, and I was the first to introduce them to a microscope. I will use these new microscopes with my class daily, and they will be able to discover what a cell looks like and what a wing of a grasshopper looks like 400 times magnified.

I truly believe that one day one of my students will become a scientist.

I believe all students have the right to use updated science equipment. I know with these new modern microscopes my students will have the opportunity to learn and be better prepared for the future.
