This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It has come to my attention that the iPad has many amazing applications that can provide young children with engaging and differentiated activities that promote necessary reading and math skills. It takes a great piece of equipment to keep 5 and 6 year olds engaged for a good length of time.
This year I am teaching a kindergarten/first grade, at risk, English as a Second Language, class.
There are 25 students in my class and their abilities are at varied levels. This makes grouping students an interesting task. My students are mostly Spanish dominant and struggle to acquire the English language. Our school is located in a high-need, low income community.
My Project
The iPad device has many applications that my students can use to learn in all different areas independently and while being engaged in technology. Children will be able to read along with words on the iPad with its touchscreen technology. Other applications help children in the area of math. They have multiple games that enhance students number recognition, counting, adding/subtracting, and problem solving skills. My students with varied learning styles would benefit from being able to touch, see, hear, and manipulate the many programs that the iPad has to offer. iPad would make a perfect center activity for a pair of students. This iPad helps to utilize another method by which my students can learn on a daily basis. The dock will provide a safe place to hold it, the headphones will enable the children to work without disturbing other students, the adapter will charge the iPad and the case will help to keep it safe and secure in their hands.
This iPad will support my students learning styles and unique abilities in many ways.
Children will be able to listen and follow words as they are highlighted on the screen. Their fine motor skills will also be improved by using their fingers to move around the screen. Through games, their cognitive skills will be used to determine outcomes. The possibilities are endless. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
