This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When I was in grade school my family had game night at least once a week. Yet, so many of the students I teach do not have board games at home. They have not had many experiences in cooperative play, strategic game play, and team work.
I teach an amazing group of 3rd graders at a high poverty inner city public school in Indianapolis.
All of my students are on the free breakfast and lunch program. The school has over 500 students with 40% of them learning English as a second language. I have a class full of eager and talented children who strive to succeed and learn.
My Project
I would like to have a game time each week in my classroom where students can all experience a variety of educational and strategy games and enjoy a little competition. Not only do children learn from play, but they learn for winning and losing. Learning sportsmanship and being a good sport are important through a person's life.
With these games my students will be exposed to games they may not have played.
They will be able to learn through play. My class will gain sportsmanship and cooperation skills all while having fun!
