Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from an inner city. We are a Title I school, which means that 98% of our children receive free or reduced-price lunch. The majority of my students are ESOL, so English is not their first language. I also have a few ESE (exceptional student education), who are visual and tactile learners.
My fourth grade class is a diverse group of students who are excited to learn in a welcoming environment.
This school year, I am fortunate to teach 45 effervescent students.
My Project
My students are very eager learners. Their favorite part of the day is when I announce, "It is center time." This is the time they get a chance to go to our classroom library, computer center, or the teacher-led center and collaborate with their peers. Sadly, our current classroom library and teacher-led center is not the most comfortable place. We are currently using old milk crates as our seating arrangement. The students like the flexibility of the crates because they can use it as a seat or as a table. However, without any cushion, the seating aspect is very uncomfortable.
I believe adding cushions to these old milk crates will set students at ease; which in return, will allow them to be more focused and engaged in learning.
