My students need Chromebooks in the classroom to advance their technology skills, work collaboratively, and to challenge themselves through STEM enrichment activities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title l school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes.
They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.
Our school is in a high needs, high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. My students work hard with many students staying after school, participating in after-school clubs and activities. My students are active and enthusiastic. They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning even through the hardships they face.
My Project
Computer science needs to be taught to everyone because technology is changing the world around us. We need to put our students in the "driver's seat" as they become innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow in the field of STEM. Students need to be encouraged not to just become a computer user, but they need to become innovators.
My students deserve access to technology and skills needed to succeed in the 21st century.
As these students progress through school, computer skills and knowing how to access information will become more vital. With these Chromebooks, my students will have access to online resources to help them grow! The addition of these Chromebooks in my classroom will give students the opportunity to develop much needed skills both on an academic and social front.
More technology in the classroom means more possibilities for students to become college, career and socially ready. Giving low-income students access to technology is an investment in their future and allowing them to create STEM projects will prepare them for their future careers. These Chromebooks would make it possible for us to be able to access technology for learning. In order for the students to be successful, they should have access to a 21st century classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
