Learning with Artistic Expression

My students need paint, brushes, tissue paper, feathers, glitter, craft paper, and no spill cups to create beautiful artwork to accompany their learning about animals, weather, rainbows, presidents, and much more!

My Students

In our classroom, our learning always concludes with art. No matter what skill or lesson we learn, we always conclude our day with art! We love to paint, but we need more paint supplies.

My students come from the largest housing projects in the city.

They are subject to very challenging experiences and difficult living conditions. Violence is common and something my students talk about daily. Many of my students lack necessary sleep and nutrition. Many are from single family homes, but they are all eager to learn. They are eager to create beautiful art. They show up daily with a desire to be the best and learn as much as they can. They thrive on the structure and safety of our classroom. That feeling of happiness is enhanced through the colorful displays that cover our hallway and classroom. The displays my students are creating to show the magnitude of their learning!

My Project

I am requesting paint, paint brushes, watercolors, tissue paper, feathers, glitter, craft paper, and no spill cups to create beautiful artwork to provide my students with even more opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of our academic content through art. Imagine reading a story and being able to paint a new setting for the story. Imagine painting new characters for your favorite book. As we learn the life cycle of the butterfly, we paint each stage. And sometimes we will get out the paint just to paint for fun! Our creativity is never stifled, but is limited by our very limited supplies. These supplies I have requested would remove the barriers to our learning that is created with such limited resources. I want my students to have access to all of the art supplies they desire, and these projects will make that reality much more real for us.

I teach seventeen students living in a bleak and scary situation, and they overcome that situation daily.

They show up, they work hard, they perform, and they create beautiful art. Please help us continue to express ourselves and our learning through the magic and wonder of art!
